The Importance of Chakra Balance

A balanced chakra system keeps the body, mind and spirit at peace. The state of happiness comes effortlessly. Unfortunately, many people suffer symptoms of unbalanced, over stimulated or shut-down chakras. The moodiness, outbursts of intense anger or rage, aches and pains, sleeplessness, anxiety, depression and other "dis-ease" in the body and mind are accepted as part of life and part of aging.

However, with a purer running energy system and balanced chakras governing the distribution of that energy, life and it's challenges are more of a joy and less of a hassle.

There are many ways one might keep the balance in the chakra system, but the real key is daily maintenance with the periodic care of a healing practitioner. With this lifestyle, should a healing crisis become part of your reality, the likelihood of dealing with it in an effective, efficient manner is quite high.

The following chakra balance exercise is intended to help bring more awareness to your energy centers and your body in general. You may not feel or see anything at all, especially if this is a virgin voyage on the energy awareness seas. However, do rest assured that you are making a real difference to and in your bodymind. Just as the effects of eating well and exercising regularly are not readily apparent to us, so is energy work. It takes a bit of time, practice and determination to see (and feel) results.

Chakra Balance Exercise - Simple

Sitting in a good chair with light music playing in the background if you choose, relax the muscles in your neck and chest. Bring attention to these areas and breathe this relaxation into them.

Take some relaxed, regular breaths. Just follow them with your awareness. Set an intention with your body and mind for balance, for peace.

And now, bring your attention to your feet, feeling the energy there. Follow it up your legs and into the base of your spine, the root chakra. Feel this energy swirl there. If you see a color, make note of it, watch it for a moment if you'd like.

Follow the energy up to the sacral chakra, just under the navel. Feel the energy there, how it moves. If you see a color, again watch how it moves.

Now following the energy up to the solar plexus just under the breast. Feel how the energy moves here. Note any color you may see.

Follow the energy to the heart chakra, which is in the middle of the chest over the sternum. Feel the energy here and make note of any color you may feel or see.

Next is the throat chakra, right over the middle of the throat. Feel the energy here and again make note of color.

Follow the energy up to the middle brow, feel this energy center and make note of the color.

Then the energy flow will go up and out the top of the head, through the crown chakra. Again, make note of the feel and color of the energy.

It is here where the balancing will begin. You may call in prayer to your Higher Power, to a Guardian angel, an Animal Totem, whom or whatever your particular spiritual path gives you guidance and support.

Bring the energy down through all your chakras, pausing for a moment at each noting the color and feel. Bring the energy all the way down to your feet and into the earth. You will feel very grounded, very real in your body.

Now, take the energy up again through all the chakras, pausing again noting the color and feel. As you feel the energy go out of the crown chakra, bring your dominant hand, palm open, over the top of your head and gently bring the hand down over your body down to your feet. As you do this feel gratitude for your connection with your Higher Power, with self, with others.

With regular, daily practice, this kind of exercise takes only a few minutes and is an excellent way to start the day, calm nerves or give yourself a little relaxing time-out.
